Regulations
Our Insurance Carrier and San Diego County Use Permits serve as the basis for many of our rules. Read carefully.
Access: Willow Glen is open 7 days a week, from 7 am – 8 pm. Should you need access beyond these time parameters (shows, sick horse, etc.), contact Management for special permission and access. This is for the safety and protection of all, including the protection of horses. No unauthorized access is permitted at any time. Should you need access beyond standard hours for shows, emergencies, or heat, please provide notice to management.
Voluntary Participation: I agree that I, the undersigned, for myself and/or on behalf of my minor children, spouse, or legal ward, are voluntarily participating - entirely at the risk of injuries or property damage we may incur - on the property location listed above.
Prohibited: Insurance providers prohibit anything that may contribute to the safety of animals and facility. WG does not permit smoking or alcohol at the facility. Occasionally, there are WG-sponsored activities in which alcohol may be permitted. This event must be approved by WG and will be monitored carefully.
24-hr Surveillance Cameras: For the safety of the WG facility, the horses, personal property, and the security of everyone, Lessee is advised there are cameras mounted that monitor the property. In the event of any wrongful actions, including but not limited to vandalism, theft, trespassers, or damages to the property of WG, trailers, or horses. WG can and will pursue damages.
Personal Financial Losses: I agree that I am responsible for my own financial loss concerning the theft or damage to my personal property, including but not limited to tack, equipment, vehicles, trailers, and horses while on the premises of WG.
Incident Costs Responsibility, and Medical Insurance Disclosure: You agree that you will be responsible for all costs, including but not limited to personal property of WG, personal property and horses, and property and injuries of others, arising from any negligence caused by the Lessee or their guests. If the Lessee has no insurance coverage, an additional deposit for insurance may be required.
Personal Property: The Lessee is solely responsible for their own personal property at all times. As the Lessee, I agree that I am responsible for the negligent acts of my family members and/or legal wards and animals. If the Lessee has no coverage, an additional deposit for insurance may be required.
Trainers: All Trainers must carry liability and business insurance in the amount of $1,000,000 and provide a copy to the Boarding Facility for our records. The trainer shall name Willow Glen as an additional insurer.
Trainers understand that they are a Lessee and must comply with all terms of this Agreement. Only authorized “Trainers” may utilize WG facility to instruct riders. WG reserves the sole right to authorize or terminate “Trainers” from WG.
Riding Lessons and Training: All "Trainers” utilizing the WG facility are Independent Contractors (IC) and NOT employees of WG. By riding with a specific “Trainer”, YOU are their employer and all agreements are solely between you and your “Trainer” including but not limited to establishing fees, payments, scheduling, and quality of training. It is the "Trainers” responsibility to maintain their own insurance coverage and YOUR responsibility to determine its coverage. WG is not responsible nor makes any guarantees regarding the performance of third-party agreements and performances. In the event there is an injury, the insurance policy of the “Trainer” would be in effect – UNLESS it is found that the injury was a result of WG’s negligence. Only authorized “Trainers” may utilize WG facility to instruct riders. Should the Lessee have a personal “Trainer” and desire their instruction, please contact Management to discuss requirements.
Protective Headgear Warning: I agree that I have been fully warned and advised by WG that I should purchase and wear protective headgear that meets or exceeds the quality standards of the SEI Certified ASTM Standard F1163 Equestrian Helmet while riding, interacting, or working near horses. I understand that wearing such headgear while mounting, riding, showing, dismounting, and otherwise being near horses may reduce the severity of some head injuries and possibly prevent the wearer's death from a fall from a horse or other occurrences. NOTE: IT IS REQUIRED AND MANDATORY THAT ALL MINOR CHILDREN WEAR THIS HEADGEAR WHILE RIDING, SHOWING, AND JUMPING ON THE PREMISES OF WILLOW GLEN EQUESTRIAN CENTRE.
Protective Footwear Warning: I agree to wear closed-toed footwear and will advise my guests of the same.
Front Gate: The front gate MUST be closed immediately each time you enter or leave WG. Do not leave the gate open in anticipation of someone else arriving or if you're stopping for just "a minute." CLOSE THE GATE UPON ENTERING OR LEAVING. Horses may get loose and would have access to a very busy street.
Driving Vehicles, Trailers, and Parking: These issues are safety measures enforced by our insurance carrier. If you cannot drive at this speed, please park at the top ON THE ROAD and WALK. If you have visitors, it is YOUR responsibility to inform them of the driving and parking rules.
-Never at any time should any driver exceed 5 M.P.H on the property. There are NO EXCEPTIONS and grounds for immediate expulsion off the property and/or termination of this Agreement.
-Stay on vehicle paths.
-Do NOT drive at night with just your parking lights on; you must have your headlights turned on, just as if you were on the road.
-Parking of vehicles and trailers is at the owner's risk. Park in designated areas only. NO vehicles or trailers may be parked in front of corrals, stalls, sheds, residences, or on the lawn area around the main and pony club arenas.
-Please ensure your parking does not block or extend into traffic. The aisles must remain clear for working vehicles and general traffic.
Dogs: We consider ourselves "dog friendly" and have always allowed boarders to bring their dogs, providing the dog is disciplined and does not attack or disrupt guests, the horses, stock, or other dogs. It is EACH dog owner's responsibility to keep their dog under control and with them—not freely roaming WG. Also, CLEAN UP after your dog to avoid any unpleasant conversations.
Riding at the Facility Arenas: Arena's are watered and dragged periodically for safety. Lessee understands that there are various experience levels in handling and riding horses. We must be respectful and use WG facility and ring etiquette.
1. In crowded arenas, pass LEFT HAND to LEFT HAND. This means if you are moving counterclockwise, you have the right of way ON THE RAIL.
2. Ride in the same direction as the rest of the group.
3. In the JUMP/DRESSAGE AND MAIN ARENAS, NO lunging! All horses working over fences have the right of way in the jump arena. We kindly request that reining horses avoid spinning or sliding, as the holes created can be difficult to see when jumping. Rakes are available.
4.Open and close arena gates when entering or departing with your horse.
5.Tack up horses before entering the arena.
6.Horses, Riders, and Trainers in Arenas only, no bystanders or dogs.
Riding Trails: Our neighbors have kindly opened trails for us. To access the trails, go to the far end of the left side of the facility and cross the riverbed. We are not allowed to ride WEST. In other words, when you go out the back, turn LEFT! Enjoy! Let’s continue being good neighbors by remembering not to litter on our trails. Also, remember all other good etiquette practices while on the trail.
Trash: Our primary responsibility is to care for your horses. Please dispose of your personal trash in the trash cans. WG does not clean up after its guests.
